Celebratory or Disrespectful? Annual ‘lamb ad’ doesn’t shy away from controversy!

January 17, 2017

Featuring a host of well-known faces including ‘Lambassador’ Sam Kekovich, Olympian Cathy Freeman and rugby player Wendell Sailor, a light-hearted tone that has marked previous lamb campaigns and a 90’s tune ‘What is love’ by Trinidadian-German Eurodance artist Haddaway, this year’s lamb ad has been hailed as the most political lamb ad to date.

Released to mixed emotions as it shies away from talking about 'Australia Day', fans of the Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) ad say it’s a brilliant way of celebrating all cultures uniting together to tackle timely and important issues of inclusivity. However, critics believe it’s not only a highly offensive misinterpretation of the arrival of the Europeans tall ships but also an effort to erase Indigenous history.

Take a look at the ad below!
