The salesperson is part of the package, part of the necessary shopping process that’s inevitable when purchasing big ticket electronic and white good items from the local store.
Samsung decided to challenge this long standing perception by launching their T9000 fridge without the presence of a salesperson - at least initially.
Installing motion sensors in each fridge compartment that were connected to an automated electronic voice, Samsung aimed to give shoppers a friendlier and more private shopping experience by enabling them to explore and attain more information about the product in their own time. When the customer was ready to speak to a salesperson, all they had to do was press a button.
The result? Increased sales targets and brand recall. Makes us wonder, will talking white goods be the way of the future?
