Chanel No. 5: The Modern Woman?
The first perfume launched by Coco Chanel, Chanel No. 5, is a classic scent associated with glamour, luxury and the sophisticated woman.
Marilyn Monroe’s endorsement provided invaluable publicity in the 50’s and since then the perfume and fashion house has selected a number of famous faces, notably actors and actresses, to front its various advertising campaign. A departure from the latter, Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen, is Chanel’s current muse.
Recently released, the 3 minute mini-film, once again directed by Australian Baz Luhrmann, features Bundchen as a modern Chanel woman: a working mum who surfs the waves in a Chanel wetsuit and Chanel board. With vivid imagery and a slow masculine rendition of the Grease hit “You’re the one that I want” as the accompanying track, the current feature ad stays true to the stylistic elements of previous ads, but also manages to project a different look and feel for the fragrance.
Take a look at the ‘Gisele’ ad here. Does it create the same emotional connection as previous ads?
Previous ad campaigns for the fragrance have included:
Nicole Kidman – Le Film
Brad Pitt – There you are
Audrey Tatou – Train De Nuit
