No brand wants to fall into the trap of using generic stereotypes in their advertising…but they often do. Even with the best of intentions to create a unique piece of advertising, many commonly used clichés appear throughout the ads we see.
Stock video provider Dissolve created a brilliant ad by mocking (what else?), ads. From lab beakers to time lapse videos, and panoramic rainforest views to babies – these are the visuals that advertising is made up of. One person described this video as ‘a journey through the semiotic landscape of marketing.’
As you’re watching it, it’s hard not to feel like you’ve seen the video before, and that’s because it is an amalgamation of every generic advertising stereotype rolled into one 3 minute video.
